Cyclist tows coffin to make statement after fatality

Several members of Bicycling for Louisville hit the streets on bicycles Tuesday morning - and one of them was towing an 8-foot coffin to show support for a cyclist who was killed in a traffic crash earlier this month.

The group rode through downtown and stopped to visit key government leaders. The bikers handed out a petition, asking that criminal charges be filed against the driver who hit and killed Chips Cronen on the Second Street Bridge on July 3rd.

"Accidents are not preventable," said Jackie Green. "This death was not an accident. It was a tragic incident. It is the drivers responsibility to pay attention."

Police say the driver did not see the cyclist until it was too late. Cronen died at the scene.

No charges have been filed against the driver.

Bicycling for Louisville is a bicycling advocacy organization that may begin lobbying to change state law to make it easier to prosecute drivers who injure others in crashes.
